As the Riverland’s wine grape industry faces significant pressure, local MP Tim Whetstone has again called for urgent support for the industry.
In the wake of drought impacted grain and livestock producers being offered state government low-interest loans, Whetstone called for the same to be extended to grape growers.
“While I of course welcome the funds being made available to local grain producers, we can’t forget about the Winegrape growers who have been fighting their own battles to keep our wine industry alive,” Mr Whetstone said.
“The Government has committed up to $200 million for these drought relief loans and they have a $102.5 million plan for algal bloom. Now they need to put some serious money on the table for our wine industry.”
Whetstone has again asked to the Minister to consider the matter further, with the industry making a significant contribution to the region’s economy each year.
