Thunderstorms Are The Next Threat

Remember that big weather system we told you was heading across the country? Well, it’s here and things are about to get a whole lot more interesting.

The Bureau of Meteorology is warning parts of NSW and Victoria could be hit by heavy rain, damaging winds, large hail and severe thunderstorms.

Up to 60mm of rain is possible across parts of the Snowy Mountains and Victoria’s northeast ranges, with a flash flood warning already in place.

Sydney Won’t Escape The Rain

While Sydney isn’t expected to cop the worst of the weather, showers are still on the cards, with around 5 to 10mm of rain possible. Further inland, things could get much more intense.

Thunderstorms are expected to develop across parts of NSW, stretching from around Tamworth towards the west of the ACT. And meteorologists aren’t ruling out some seriously wild storms, with the potential for very heavy rainfall, damaging wind gusts and large hail.

The good news is the heaviest rain across the Snowy Mountains and northeast Victoria should ease later in the day. But the threat of thunderstorms will stick around.

So if you’re heading out today, keep an eye on the latest warnings, bring the umbrella and maybe think twice before leaving anything outside that you don’t want blown into your neighbour’s backyard.

It looks like winter has decided to go out with a bang.
