PlayStation 5 players, it is officially time to start marking your calendars for 2027. The team at Santa Monica Studio has just dropped a major update for the highly anticipated God of War Laufey, confirming that pre-orders are officially live now.
Set to launch on 16 February 2027, this prequel shifts the focus to Faye as she battles her way through the Everywhen—the mysterious afterlife of the gods. To celebrate the pre-order launch, the PlayStation Blog has shared a brand-new look at exactly how Faye will be taking down her enemies, and it is safe to say they are in for a rough time.
Faye’s Serpent Bow Brings New Combat Mechanics The biggest reveal is a deep dive into Faye’s primary weapon: the Serpent Bow. This is not your standard piece of wood and string. It is an enchanted weapon that physically shifts forms, designed to swap from dormant to notched at lightning speed. It looks completely lethal in both close-quarters combat and ranged attacks.
The bow operates with two distinct aiming modes based on how you use the controller triggers. A full press activates Precision Mode, giving you better accuracy and a longer draw distance. Hitting specific body parts can stop enemies in their tracks, opening them up for a quick melee strike. You can even charge up to five arrows at once for a massive attack.
If you prefer a faster pace, a half-press of the trigger enters Hip-Fire Mode. This is a highly mobile stance that lets you fire clusters of arrows at enemies who get too close. It is perfect for juggling enemies in the air, especially after your companion, Phranque, launches them upwards. Throw in different arrow types (like explosive and multi-target shots) and you have a very versatile weapon.
Customising Your Everywhen Experience: Faye is an expert warrior, and the game is clearly designed to let you play exactly how you want. You can alter the bow by equipping different Serpent Scales, which change both the visual look of the weapon and the perks attached to it.
The customisation extends well beyond the bow, too. You can swap out Faye’s armour to boost specific stats, tweak the elemental damage of her blade, and equip different Catalysts. These artifacts allow you to channel the potent magic of the Everywhen, giving you even more ways to control the battlefield.
Pre-Order Bonuses and Editions Explained: If you are ready to secure your copy, there are some nice bonuses on the table. Grabbing the Standard Edition before launch will score you the Last Wish Armour Set, a shiny Golden Leaves cosmetic appearance for Phranque, and a handy in-game resource pack.
