I was still a teenager when the very first Scream sliced its way into cinemas, and I remember sitting there completely spellbound. It was clever, shocking, and unlike anything I’d seen. Every twist felt fresh, the humour razor sharp, and the horror deliciously meta.
The sequels that followed varied in quality. Some landed beautifully, while others drifted into B-grade territory, never managing to recreate the suspense or smart reveals of the original. But now, Scream 7 has emerged from the shadows, and this new chapter feels like Ghostface has come home.
A Killer Airbnb: The Trailer’s First Shocking Strike
The teaser opens by returning us to the most infamous house in the franchise.
A young couple arrives at what appears to be a slasher-themed Airbnb, later revealed to be the original house associated with the 1996 killings.
The space is decorated with true-crime memorabilia and voyeuristic detail. It has all the hallmarks of a horror fan novelty stay. That tone shifts quickly. Ghostface returns, and the holiday becomes a violent bloodbath.
It is a self-aware opening that comments on how real tragedy becomes commodified as entertainment. It also reminds us that no renovation or commercialisation can erase the horror etched into those walls.
Ghostface Comes for Sidney’s Daughter

From here, the trailer pivots to the heart of the story.
Sidney Prescott, played once again by Neve Campbell, has built a quiet life far from Woodsboro. Peace, however, has never lasted long for her.
A new Ghostface emerges, targeting Sidney’s daughter, played by Isabel May. Her character is reportedly named Tatum, a tribute to Sidney’s best friend who was murdered in the first film.

Tatum refuses to be a passive victim. Under Sidney’s guidance, she learns the rules, trains to survive, and prepares to fight. This relationship introduces an emotional depth the franchise has not explored before. It gives the story weight, showing trauma not just as something to outrun, but something that must be confronted.
Familiar Faces Return, Even Those Long Thought Dead
The cast list is both nostalgic and surprising.
Returning:
- Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott
- Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers
- Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding as Mindy and Chad
- Matthew Lillard as Stu Macher
- Skeet Ulrich as Billy Loomis
- Scott Foley as Roman Bridger
David Arquette is also reportedly appearing as Dewey Riley, despite his on-screen death.

Newcomers include Isabel May, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Michelle Randolph, Joel McHale, Anna Camp, and Mark Consuelos, among others.
One moment in the trailer suggests Michelle Randolph’s character may die at Stu Macher’s house, falling from an upper floor directly onto Ghostface’s blade. Of course, nothing is certain in a Scream film. Death does not always stick, and the living do not always stay that way.
Kevin Williamson Directs the Seventh Installment
One of the most exciting creative announcements is the return of Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original Scream, along with Scream 2 and Scream 4. This time, he takes on directing responsibilities.
Williamson is often credited with crafting the tone that made Scream iconic: dark humour, mystery, and genuine tension. His return suggests a revival of the spirit that made the first films so memorable.
Writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick have returned, and Marco Beltrami is composing the score.
A Mother’s Fight
This film appears to ground its tension in a more personal conflict than ever before.
Sidney is no longer simply fighting for her own survival. She is fighting for her child.
Williamson has publicly stated that, no matter how brutal this instalment becomes, Sidney will be safe. After decades of torment, he insists she deserves a hopeful ending.
After everything she has survived, that feels long overdue.
A New Ghostface
Cast members have suggested that this Ghostface may be the most violent yet. With the emotional stakes anchored in family and legacy, it is likely that the killings will have narrative meaning beyond shock value.
The combination of a deadly Airbnb opener, a new town, returning killers, and a family under siege suggests that this Ghostface is directly connected to Sidney’s past.
Release Date
Scream 7 is scheduled for release in cinemas on 27 February 2026.
