Sabrina Carpenter’s music video for “Manchild” was a huge success, but the singer recently revealed she sustained a surprising injury behind the scenes.
During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the 26-year-old Grammy winner explained that filming the video in the “great outdoors” didn’t go as smoothly as planned. “Manchild” was the lead single from her 2025 album, Man’s Best Friend.
“I fell on a cactus,” she told host Seth Meyers. “It’s so easy to laugh when people get hurt. And I did. But then I started crying.”
Carpenter also discussed why the ambitious video, which kicked off her Man’s Best Friend era, was one of her biggest projects to date.
“I’ll be honest, that shoot was so ambitious. We shot 37 outfits,” she explained. “That was probably my biggest shoot I’ve ever done. I’m so grateful to be able to make that production of my dreams. But it was definitely… We endured a lot of pain to get the finished product.”
The hard work paid off, earning her a Best Music Video nomination at the 2026 Grammy Awards. Meyers called the video a fun “old-school throwback” to “grand” music videos. Carpenter shared why the nomination was so meaningful after bringing her vision to life.
“I really like that because I think — I make pop music and sometimes you don’t expect to see those visuals in a song like that. So that one means a lot to me. I’m very excited that everyone has like the video.”
In addition to Best Music Video, Sabrina Carpenter earned five other Grammy nominations for the upcoming awards show, including major categories like Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year.
