Isaac Johnson, an MMA fighter from Chicago, was sadly pronounced dead only hours after he collapsed during his fight with Mario Aleksandrovski. The 31-year old was taking on his first Thai boxing match against Aleksandrovski on Friday the 21st of November. During the third and final round Johnson collapsed after sustaining an injury.
An ambulance rushed Johnson to hospital and was later pronounced dead at 12:01 a.m. local time at the Loyola University Medical Center. An autopsy will be conducted to reveal what exactly was the cause of Johnson’s passing but as of the time of writing this, cause of death is still unknown. Joe Goytia, the event’s promoter released a statement which he published on his own Facebook page.
“This is a post I hoped to never make. Last night, one of the fighters in our event, Isaac Johnson, collapsed towards the end of his fight. Medical attention was given by medical staff on hand and he was transported to hospital. I was then informed at around 1:30 a.m. this morning that he didn’t make it… I don’t have the words to express how I feel right now, all I can say is my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and teammates.
