A French holiday took an unexpected turn when a 62-year-old man, en route to Morocco with his wife and daughter, inadvertently left his wife behind at a petrol station. The oversight was only discovered 300 kilometres later, leading to a frantic search and a lesson in travel attentiveness.
A Road Trip Gone Awry
On July 5th, the family departed Paris for Morocco, making several stops along the way. At approximately 4:30 a.m., during one such stop near Orléans, the man unknowingly drove off without his wife, who had exited the vehicle. It wasn’t until around 8:30 a.m. that he realised her absence and contacted emergency services, unable to recall the exact location of the stop.
The Search Begins
The couple’s 22-year-old daughter, asleep during the incident, couldn’t provide details to aid the search. Authorities, suspecting potential foul play due to the unusual circumstances, initiated a thorough investigation. Utilising mobile network data, they eventually located the woman at a service station in Deux-Sèvres, where she had been waiting since the early hours.
A Fortunate Reunion
After confirming the incident was a genuine mistake, police facilitated the family’s reunion. The trip resumed, albeit with a newfound emphasis on ensuring all passengers were accounted for during stops
