Sony Pictures is developing a Labubu movie, bringing the beloved scruffy monster from collectors’ shelves to the big screen. The project is still in its earliest phase with no creative team announced yet, and Sony has not confirmed whether the film will be animated or live-action.

A Collectible Turned Global Craze
Labubu began as part of Kasing Lung’s art-toy universe before Pop Mart transformed it into a phenomenon. Blind-box releases created excitement and scarcity, leading to long lines, soaring resale prices and limited editions that routinely sparked major fan frenzy.

Celebrity Boost and Worldwide Momentum
The craze gained even more momentum when Blackpink’s Lisa began showcasing the toys in 2024, elevating Labubu from a regional trend to an international must-have. With other celebrities jumping on the Labubu train, Pop Mart’s profits surged as demand exploded worldwide.

Hollywood’s Latest Toy-To-Film Bet
Sony’s move follows the success of films like The Lego Movie and Barbie, and Labubu’s cast of quirky characters offers plenty of cinematic potential.
