77th Annual Emmy Awards: The Studio Dominates, Comedy and Drama Deliver Surprises!

Los Angeles: The 77th annual Primetime Emmy Awards rolled out the red carpet, with comedian Nate Bargatze keeping the laughs flowing as host. The night solidified some fan favourites while also delivering a few unexpected wins that have everyone talking!

The big winner of the night? Apple TV’s The Studio, the Seth Rogen comedy that already made history as the most-nominated first-year comedy series. After snagging a whopping nine Creative Arts Emmys last week, it continued its winning streak, with Rogen himself taking home the first award of the night for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. The Studio also proudly claimed the highly coveted Best Comedy Series award, proving its undeniable impact.

In a competitive field for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, the legendary Jean Smart from Hacks emerged victorious, delighting fans. Meanwhile, Hannah Einbinder, also from Hacks, took home the statuette for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. On the supporting actor front, Jeff Hiller from Somebody Somewhere earned the win for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, a pleasant surprise for many.

In drama categories The Pitt was crowned Best Drama Series, an impressive feat! For lead performances in a drama, Britt Lower from Severance captivated voters, winning Best Lead Actress, while Noah Wyle’s powerful performance in The Pitt earned him Best Lead Actor.

Supporting roles in drama saw Katherine LaNasa from The Pitt take Best Supporting Actress, and Tramell Tillman from Severance recognised for Best Supporting Actor, both well-deserved wins.

Beyond the major series and acting accolades, The Traitors took home the award for Best Reality Competition Program, cementing its status as a must-watch.

Adolescence had a strong showing in the Limited or Anthology Series categories, winning Best Limited Or Anthology Series, Best Directing in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for Philip Barantini, Best Supporting Actor for Owen Cooper, Best Supporting Actress for Erin Doherty, Best Lead Actor for Stephen Graham, and Best Writing for Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham. Cristina Milioti won Best Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series for her role in The Penguin.

Other notable wins included Last Week Tonight with John Oliver for Best Scripted Variety Series and The Late Show With Stephen Colbert for Best Variety Talk Series. Dan Gilroy received Best Writing for a Drama Series for Andor, and Adam Randall was honoured with Best Directing for a Drama Series for Slow Horses.

Overall, the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards was a night of celebration, with familiar faces and exciting new talent being recognised for their outstanding contributions to television.
