Over the past few days, there has been growing concern for Kanye West and his mental health, following an emotional and sometimes rambling "presidential campaign" speech, and a series of tweets (now deleted) critisizing Kim and the rest of her family, including one where he said he was trying to divorce Kardashian.
The couple married in 2014 and have four children.
Kim has now spoken out on social media, asking for compassion and empathy for her rapper husband.
“As many of you know, Kanye has bi-polar disorder,” she wrote on Wednesday, calling him a “brilliant but complicated person”.
“Those who are close with Kanye know his heart and understand his words some times do not align with his intentions,” Kardashian wrote.
West announced he had bipolar disorder in 2018 - and he was hospitalised for psychiatric treatment in 2016.
“Those that understand mental illness or even compulsive behaviour know that the family is powerless unless the member is a minor,” she said.
“I kindly ask that the media and public give us the compassion and empathy that is needed so that we can get through this,”
We wish Kanye and his family all the best. We always speak about the need for more understanding and compassion in regards to mental health - and now is a perfect time to show it.
