She received the most votes during the 'Eurovision — Australia Decides' final on the Gold Coast over the weekend; the first time the public helped choose a winner.

Kate Miller-Heidke went up against Electric Fields, Ella Hooper, Sheppard, Courtney Act, Tania Doko, Alfie Arcuri, Mark Vincent, Aydan and Leea Nanos.

Kate Miller-Heidke's song 'Zero Gravity' took the top spot receiving 135 points, while Electric Fields came second with 114 points.

She celebrated the news saying she was "totally overwhelmed"

"Thanks to everyone who voted, and to all the other artists who provided such a brilliant, eclectic and stiff competition.

"I've had a ball, and I'm so grateful and thrilled that I get to represent Australia at Eurovision in 2019."
