The peak body representing countryshowsacross Australia is calling on the Federal Government to invest in a support package to ensure the survival of the events beyond the COVID-19 pandemic.

Agricultural ShowsAustralia (ASA) estimatesshowscontribute approximately $1 billion to the national economy – a figure which has all but dried up overnight with the cancellation of four royalshowsand hundreds of countryshowsto date because of COVID-19.

ASA Chair Dr Rob Wilson said the cancellation of other events which utilised existingshowinfrastructure – including concerts, exhibitions, corporate events and functions – dealt a further blow to the finances of agricultural societies.

Recently some doubt was thrown onto local shows after the cancellation of the Royal Adelaide show as well as the cancellation of the Karoonda farm fair.

A spokesperson from the Loxton Show said that no decision had been made on this year’s show set for October, however a call would have to be made by late June.
