Despite water allocations for SA irrigators now at 100% Local growers are being urged to prepare for next season.

Minister for Environment and Water David Speirs said “The increase to 100 per cent water allocations for this year will be welcome news for South Australian River Murray irrigators,” said Minister Speirs.

“However, ongoing dry conditions across the Basin could have an impact on future water resource availability and it is recommended that water users start planning for the season ahead.

Department for Environment and Water (DEW) Water Delivery Manager, Jarrod Eaton, said “The Murray-Darling Basin Authority-controlled storages have remained at 41per cent capacity, which is well below the end of November average of 79per cent,”

Mr Eaton also said “With current low levels of water in storage and low inflows likely over the rest of spring and into early summer, water availability remains likely to be limited heading into the 2020-21 water year.”

Rules for carryover water allocations can be found via the department of environment and water’s website.
