The fight against Queensland fruit fly has has been strengthened through a new $10 million funding agreement of the National Sterile Insect Technology (SIT) Facility at Port Augusta.
Flies produces at the centre have been used recently in response to outbreaks at Loxton as well as Lindsay point in Victoria.
Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development Tim Whetstonesaid the arrangement ensured the continuing development of sterile Queensland fruit fly production at the facility.
Mr Whetstone also said “The state Government will use every tool in its disposal to protect the states vital $1.2 billion horticulture industry, however the National SIT Facility is also a game changer for Australian horticulture as a whole".
