A man has been arrested following a deliberately lit fire in Berri yesterday.
Just after 11.30am yesterday, police patrols and fire crews were called to Cooper Street, where the sole occupant had deliberately set fire to the house.
On arrival, patrols found the man outside the house suffering from some superficial burns and minor smoke inhalation.
The 41-year-old from Berri, was taken to hospital to be medically and psychiatrically assessed prior to being declared fit for custody.
The man was charged with arson and refused bail to appear in the Berri Magistrates Court today.
The house was completely destroyed and damage is estimated at about $150,000.
In total four firefighting appliances were on the scene, with fire fighters taking 25 minutes to extinguish the fire.
