SA Health are providing information to People who have used the Loxton hydrotherapy pool after an atypical mycobacterium (Mycobacterium avium complex) was detected in the pool.
Pool operators took the precautionary measure of closing the pool late last month and is working with SA Health and the Loxton-Waikerie council to ensure the pool is appropriately disinfected prior to reopening.
Symptoms of the mycobacterium include cough, fatigue, shortness of breath, blood-stained phlegm, weight loss, chest pain, fever, and localised skin and soft tissue infection.
In a statement related by SA Health One case of illness related to Mycobacterium avium complex exposure has been reported to SA Health. The patient is recovering well under the care of their GP.
