Recent media reports have again raised questions regarding Member for Barker, Tony Pasin’s, citizenship status.

Despite the Prime Minister announcing a process to ensure full transparency regarding the citizenship of all members of Parliament, to avoid further speculation Mr Pasin this week made a public statement outlining the status of his citizenship.

Mr Pasin claimed said both his parents were born in Italy before migrating to Australia in in early 1960s and following this went on to become Australian citizens, terminating their Italian citizenship.

Mr Pasin was quick to add that, as set out in the recent High Court decision, Italian citizenship for those born outside Italy can only be obtained through taking positive action and that he had never sought to obtain dual citizenship given he wasn’t entitled.
