In sports, last weekend’s Country Football Championships held in Murray Bridge saw the Eastern Zone – made up with players from the Riverland, Mallee and Murray regions – finish in fourth place. The team, which included three RFL players, Steve Burton, Matthew Min and Ben Yeomans, with Sam Butterworth as an emergency, were taken out by Western with a loss of 47 points on Sunday. Yeomans flew the Riverland flag securing two best-on-ground performances over the weekend and Burton kicked a total of three goals. Yeomans was also selected for Team of the Championships and will be in the running for a Guernsey in the SA Country team, who are set to take on the WA country team in Perth later this year.
