The Riverland Football community is in mourning, following the death of South Australian football icon Niel Kerley.

88-year-old Kerley was killed yesterday afternoon in a car crash at Walker Flat, just kilometers from his home.

After learning his football craft at the Barmera Football Club in early 1950’s, Kerley went on to play 265 games at SANFL league level, and coached 5 sides in total, winning a number of premierships.

Post playing and coaching Kerley was no stranger to the Riverland, attending the Riverland Sportsperson of the year award and various Riverland Football Functions.
