New details have emerged of what might have been at the site of the former Westpac Bank building in Renmark.

Previously confidential documents have now been released, showing one proposal of a 5 story accommodation building that could have been built at the site on Murray Avenue.

Proposals in the document show over $40 Million could have been generated for the region, and a number of jobs would have been supported.

The report that was presented to the elected members made the recommendation to continue the expression of interest process further, however this was stopped abruptly when councilors voted five-to-two to return the council owned site to public space.

The cost on this was also outlined in the report, indicating over $450,000 will be needed for that to take place.

The report also highlighted the public space vote went against councils own existing strategies.
