Renmark Airport’s automated lighting system is set for an upgrade.
Recently it was reported the airports runway lighting system was unable to be switched on remotely from the air, meaning council staff were needed to switch the lights on manually when aircraft were landing at night.
Independent assessments of the Pilot Actuated Automated Lighting Control System (PAALCS) reported the system needed to be completely replaced, with parts unavailable for the currently Department of Civil Aviation system that dates back many years.
The airport plays a key role for the Riverland, with the Flying Doctor landing in the Riverland on average twice per day.
