The first of approximately 1200 seasonal workers are set to arrive in the Riverland today, ahead of the busy winter citrus season.

The workers from Tonga will quarantine in Paringa before filling vacancies in the horticultural sector.

When announcing the program recently the Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development David Basham said the State Government had worked closely with SA Health and SAPOL to ensure the facility meets strict safety standards.

Many grower groups recently had been quite vocal on the worker shortage situation, with attempts to entice Australian workers only seeing small numbers of interest.
