The Riverland may have a worker shortage on its hands, with many sectors commenting on the difficulty in recruiting and keeping staff.

While shortages of harvest labour have been documented in horticultural sector, other industries have now cited staff recruitment issues.

Regional Development Australia Murraylands & Riverland (RDAMR) say earlier this year they identified hundreds of jobs in the Riverland across many industry sectors including Health Care and Social Assistance, Accommodation and Food Services, Retail, Manufacturing and Agriculture.

Local MP, Tim Whetstone commented on the issued, saying “The Government is currently looking at ways they can fill these gaps, including potential quarantine facilities in the Riverland for international workers, to help our farmers who need to get fruit off their trees and their crops harvested.”
