A local Mayor has raised concerns with ongoing long term speculation of a replacement of the Paringa Bridge that could see the towns of Renmark & Paringa bypassed.
For decades a proposed River crossing at spring cart gully had been touted as a possible location; however any development has been a distant thought.
Speaking to the national broadcaster, Renmark-Paringa Mayor Neil Martinson raised concerns with the idea saying "Council's biggest concern is what effect it would have on our economy, with any proposed bypass," While other Mayors disagreed saying other towns had survived after being bypassed.
In 2019 Federal MP Tony Pasion dissuced the proposal with Federal Local Government Minister Mark Coulton however said recently a bypass would come at huge cost and would need the support of all three councils.
The 93 year old Paringa Bridge is the slowest part of the national highway network at just 30km/h.
