Despite 2020 being a year of challenges and shutdowns local lock operators had their busiest year in the last five.

More than 5700 vessels passed through SA Water’s network of locks last year, Keeping local lock operators particularly busy.

SA Water’s Senior Manager of River Murray Operations Garry Fyfe said visitor numbers have remained solid despite the travel restrictions imposed by COVID-19.

What makes the high number even more impressive is that in line with SA Border controls lock 6 near the Victorian border only saw 19 lockage’s between April and June last year.

SA Water data shows that lock 4 near Bookpurnong was the busiest lock in the SA Water network last year, recording just under 800 lockages throughout the year.
