Sleepless nights be gone! This new TikTok trend will have you dozing off in no time - and it's super easy!
Several TikTok users are backing a new hack to help you sleep better: lettuce in hot water.
Yep, people are adding lettuce to a cup of boiling water, letting it brew (just like tea), and then drinking it to remedy their insomnia - and as crazy as it might sound, it apparently works!
TikTok user @Shapla_11 shared the sleepy-tea recipe with her 48K followers and the video now has over 5 million views.
You might be thinking, "Lettuce tea? Gross!" but according to @Shapla_11 the concoction just "tastes like nothing".
"Lettuce has crack because your sis is goneee" she adds at the end of the video.
If you don't trust the theory based on this one tester, please read on. Thousands of users have commented on the video in full support.
@MilaSummer says, "my mum used to do this for me, boiled water and leave it in the pan for 5min on minimum heat, always worked for me and it's all natural."
@ezAF adds, "Dyphenhydramine knocks you out in 30 minutes. Been using it for years."
@MJ continues, "in Mexico people bathe their babies in lettuc baths. It's a neat trick to get babies to sleep, good to know it works in this way as well."
Still not convinced? Well there's science to back it up!
Michelle Ulman from the spruce has done some research in support of lettuce's sleep inducing properties:
Lettuce, especially romaine lettuce, contains a phytonutrient called lactucarium, which is said to induce sleep, relieve pain and promote relaxation. If munching on a salad before bedtime isn’t appealing, you can brew lettuce tea by pouring very hot water over romaine leaves, then letting them steep for ten minutes before adding a touch of honey for a sweet flavor.
