Man pleads guilty to burning NSW toddler

A man has pleaded guilty to child neglect less than 48 hours after his partner's toddler suffered severe burns when left in his care in regional NSW.

The 30-year-old man was looking after the two-year-old boy while the mother was at work on Saturday night, NSW Police said in a statement on Monday.

The woman arrived home to find her child unsettled then discovered his injuries.

The toddler was taken to Condobolin hospital with second-degree burns to his face and back and later airlifted to Westmead Children's Hospital.

Detectives from the child abuse squad arrested the man at Bathurst on Sunday evening and later charged him.

He pleaded guilty at Bathurst Local Court on Monday to neglecting a child in his care and domestic violence-related reckless grievous bodily harm.

The man, who can't be named for legal reasons, was formally refused bail by magistrate Jacqueline Trad.

He's due to appear for sentencing via video link at the same court on June 24.
