The death toll from the Easter Sunday suicide bombings in Sri Lanka has risen to 310 and police say they have arrested 40 suspects.
As a state of emergency took effect on Tuesday giving the Sri Lankan military wartime powers, police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara confirmed the raised death toll.
Among the 40 suspects arrested are the driver of a van allegedly used by the suicide bombers and the owner of a house where some of them lived, officials said.
President Maithripala Sirisena declared Tuesday a day of mourning.
The six near-simultaneous attacks on three churches and three luxury hotels and three related blasts later on Sunday were the South Asian island nation's deadliest violence in a decade since a bitter civil war ended.
