Vic accused found asleep in stolen car

A young man facing a host of burglary and theft charges in Melbourne was allegedly found unconscious in a stolen car in the early hours of Saturday.

Police allege they found Dylan Whitfield passed out at 12.30am at Blackburn in a car loaded with alleged stolen items including electronics and motorbike exhausts.

Police say Whitfield was already on bail for a number of charges dating back to 2015, including several car theft charges, burglary, failure to answer bail, theft, handling and damaging stolen property and assault.

On Saturday morning, he allegedly became aggressive when roused by police, running away and hiding in bushes.

An ice pipe and a deal bag of what seeming contained Xanax was also allegedly found in the car and on his person.

Whitfield told the court he was attempting to rebuild his life and described the events of Saturday morning as a "one-off incident".

His bail application was refused and he was remanded in custody to reappear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on July 19.
