Changes to wild dog management in northwest Victoria are said to be a concern for landholders in South Australia, including through the Riverland & Mallee.
The Northwest region of Victoria covers from the river Murray to Bordertown, with the changes now meaning wild dogs are now protected on private and public land.
The Victorian Government say it considered the dingo population in Victoria to be at risk of extinction and in need of immediate protection.
South Australian Primary Industries Minister Clare Scriven has sought a meeting with the Victorian Minister for Agriculture, as well as writing to both that minister and the Victorian Minister for the Environment following the announcement.
Minister Scriven added further “The South Australian Government stands side by side with industry when it comes to the concerns that we have and the implications of Victoria’s decision and the pressing need to destroy any dingoes migrating from Victoria into South Australia”.
