The release of sterile fruit flies in the Riverland is set to resume this week.

Low flying aircraft will again be used to deploy the flies in an effort to eradicate the region of fruit fly.

Ground releases will also occur in parts of Renmark, Cooltong, Chaffey, Berri & Glossop.

Officials say the use of sterile flies is a key tactic to protect the region from the pest.

Currently the Riverland has over 50 outbreak zones, however over half did not have a detection in the last 12 weeks.
