Rural maternity units on the agenda in Canberra

The future of rural maternity units needs be prioritised according to the Rural Doctor’s Association.

A recent forum in Canberra revealed over 150 rural maternity units have closed nationally in the last 20 years.

While not officially closed, maternity services at Waikerie have now been suspended for over two years.

RDAA president Dr Megan Belot called on the government to make rural maternity services a health reform priority.
