Following an over two year wait, Berri’s newly rebuilt Riverview Drive is now open for traffic.
The road suffered significant damage as a direct response to building an earth levee along the road during the 2022/23 River Murray Flood, with that process out of Council’s control.
Further delays were experienced as further public consultation was held, however Berri Barmera Council CEO Tim Pfeiffer speaking this week said the highly-anticipated project was worth the wait.
Mr Pfeiffer, who took the helm long after the flood event, added further “It is satisfying to tick this project off of Council’s to-do list, made even more satisfying by the delivery of a high-quality result and a significant budget saving.”
The project was delivered $416,000 under budget through what Council say was careful planning and cost management.
Fortunately for rate payers a significant portion of the rebuild cost will be absorbed by the State Governments Local Government Disaster Recovery Assistance Arrangements.
