Moves made to see more specialist medical services in the Riverland is paying off according to officials.
Over ten specialist doctors have now been recruited to work in regional SA, including additional oncologists now working at the Riverland General Hospital.
The local Riverland Mallee Coorong Local Health Network (RMCLHN) also now sees additional palliative care consultants to improve access to essential end-of-life care.
A rural health workforce event held in 2022 has so far guided where specialists are needed the most, with health networks also now working to meet local needs more effectively.
SA’s Minister for Health, Chris Picton saying “they will continue to improve access to specialist services and invest in regional healthcare, helping rural and remote South Australians to access the medical treatment they need, closer to home”.
