Families across the Riverland are being reminded to follow strict fruit‑fly movement rules as students head back to school, with two new Queensland fruit fly outbreaks confirmed in the region.

Outbreaks at Murtho (Murtho H) and Holder were declared late last week after adult flies and a gravid female were detected in monitoring traps.

PIRSA says home‑grown fruit and vegetables remain subject to movement restrictions, and understanding the rules is essential to avoid spreading fruit fly.

Despite the recent detections, PIRSA Fruit Fly Response Program General Manager Jason Size said “With proven eradication measures in place, and community support, they have seen many of the outbreaks contained”

As of last week there were 58 outbreak areas in the Riverland, 38 of which did not have active red centres.
