Local cancer screening concern

There’s fresh concerns bowel cancer screening rates are dropping.

new data shows the Murray & Mallee region had a test participation rate of 43.1% through 2020/21, apposed to 2019 that saw a rate of 48%.

Cancer Council SA Prevention and Advocacy Manager Christine Morris said it was very concerning that bowel screening participation rates are trending down nationwide, adding further “Screening is the best way to detect bowel cancer, with up to 90 per cent of bowel cancers able to be treated effectively if caught early.
