Fruit fly officials are calling for locals to keep up their efforts to eliminate the pest, despite a new Riverland detection made in recent days.
The latest find in Gurra Gurra brings the total now out to 53, however 22 of these have not had a detection in the last 12 weeks.
Incident Controller of the Fruit Fly Emergency Response, Jason Size, said that support from residents in affected areas is crucial in the fight against fruit fly.
“Without your support to help our fruit fly officers do their job in outbreak affected areas, we are fighting one-handed in our battle against fruit fly,” Mr Size said
Sterile fly (SIT) releases are set to continue in several Riverland locations, including;
- Cadell
- Holder
- Kingston on Murray
- Overland Corner
- Qualco
- Sunlands
- Taylorville
- Waikerie
