A recent environmental watering project at a local floodplain has been labelled a massive success, with monitoring showing strong waterbird populations.
Over 30 waterbird species have been observed at a section of the Chowilla Floodplain north of Renmark, with Environment department staff monitoring recording 2000 individual birds each morning.
Four Gigalitres of water was pumped into Lake Limbra at the floodplain, which had been delivered under the Living Murray program.
Minister for Climate, Environment & Water Susan Close said “Water for the environment is vital to maintaining a healthy River Murray and floodplain system.
Minister Close added “The Department for Environment and Water works closely with other environmental water holders to deliver water for the environment to rejuvenate and sustain important habitats and environments for our native species.”
