CALLS TO CUT RED TAPE

doctor gad5f95f6a 640 The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) is urging the government to address migration red tape that is hindering international medical graduates from practicing in Australia, particularly in rural areas.

The college says international medical graduates, are the core of Australia’s rural GP workforce and Australia is losing too many potential rural and regional GPs to other countries because of our slow and painful processes.

They also called for a review of the 10-year requirement of International medical graduates to work outside major cities, suggesting that incentivizing rather than compelling GPs to work in rural areas would be more effective in addressing workforce needs.
