Waikerie has been named one of the final three in this year’s SA Agricultural Town of the Year award.
The local town joins Burra and Cummins as the three contenders, with the winner to be announced at the 2026 South Australian Regional Showcase Awards later this year.
Previously Waikerie was named in the top 10 in 2023 and the top 5 in 2022.
Primary industries Minister, Clare Scriven said The Ag Town of the Year Award is all about celebrating the country towns that demonstrate strength, innovation and leadership.
“These three towns are outstanding examples of rural communities that are vibrant, hard-working, and fantastic places to live” Said the Minister.
No Riverland town has ever taken out the top award, however the Mallee towns of Pinnaroo and Lameroo can both claim to be previous winners.
