Loxton’s History sure ain’t boring
The “Loxton’s History sure ain’t boring” evening is an annual event which has been run successfully for 12 years as part of South Australia’s History Month. The statewide theme for this year’s SA History Festival is “Power”
This year’s event is being held Tuesday 7th May 2024 at the Loxton Sporting Precinct, on the Mezzanine Floor at 7pm. Tickets available from the Loxton Library & Visitor Information Centre or at the door.
The evening consists of three 25-minute presentations based on historical stories from the region. This year’s guest speakers are:
1. SHERYL GILES: (Ngarrindjeri elder) “THE POWER OF THE LAND TO PROVIDE – THE ABORIGINAL EXPERIENCE”
Aboriginal people – living in harmony with the land for generations
2. JOHN PETERSON & MAYOR TREVOR NORTON: “THE POWER OF THE RIVER IN FLOOD”
The experiences of the 1956 flood at Kingston-on-Murray &
How knowledge of previous floods informed the response to the 2022/23 flood
3. JUSTINE FOGDEN: “THE CATTLE INDUSTRY IN LOXTON – A FAMILY’S EXPERIENCE
Working with the land – developing a family cattle breeding enterprise.
The evening is supported by and run in conjunction with the Loxton-Waikerie District Council.
