Stolen car crashes in the Riverland

Two arrests have been made in the Riverland, after an alleged stolen car crashed at Wigley Flat.

Sunday just after 8am Riverland police were called to the Sturt Highway, about 20 kilometres west of Barmera following reports that a Holden hatchback had crashed and the occupants had fled the scene.

A search located the occupants nearby, with checks revealing the car was allegedly stolen from North Adelaide the previous evening.

A 24‑year‑old man from Taperoo and a 23‑year‑old woman from Elizabeth Vale were arrested and charged with failing to truthfully answer questions about the driver of a motor vehicle and illegal use of a motor vehicle.

The man was further charged with serious criminal trespass and theft in relation to the North Adelaide break‑in, as well as a separate theft where it’s alleged he stole items from a Nuriootpa service station earlier on Sunday morning.

The woman was additionally charged with unlawful possession after she was allegedly found in possession of unopened cigarettes suspected of being stolen.

Both are expected to face the Berri Magistrates Court today, (Monday 13th April).
