Landscape board officials continue efforts to stamp out invasive weeds in the wake of the 2022/23 River Murray flood.
While the flood provided many floodplains and wetlands a much needed drink, there’s now concerns over the increase of invasive weeds.
This could see many detrimental impacts according to the Landscape Board who say this could threaten environmental and cultural values, cause disruption to the operation of critical infrastructure, and have impacts on the community’s enjoyment of the river.
A project currently underway aims to work with many groups on controlling the threat, with the community able to provide pest plant sightings via the landscape board.
Pests of concern include
- African Boxthorn
- Yellow Waterlily
- Opuntia
- Noogoora Burr
- Boneseed
- Khaki Weed
- Sagittaria
- Spiny Rush
- Golden Dodder (pictured)
- Yellow Iris
- Poison Buttercup
- White Weeping Broom.
