After being vacated in 2022 amid building concerns, Berri Barmera Council’s civic centre and main office could return to their former location on Wilson Street.
Reports conducted at the time identified potential structural concerns with the site, however further more in-depth reports just completed have revealed remediation works could see the site used again.
Further findings of the report indicated long term issues such as water leaks may have led to some of the issues currently faced by Council.
Costings are yet to be determined, however Berri Barmera Council CEO Tim Pfeiffer said the early assessments show that reoccupying the civic centre offers the most cost-effective long-term solution compared with leasing, demolition or new construction.”
Council has now agreed to proceed with scoping and costing the required remediation and refurbishment works, including plumbing, structural, roof, services and fit-out requirements, with the intent of enabling reoccupation of the civic centre as soon as practicable.
Currently Council occupies a leased site on Riverview drive.
