There’s again reports the ‘Bitumen Bandits’ are on the prowl across South Australia.
They operate by offering cheap bitumen laying work, however the work is often substandard – with reports this year of activity in Renmark.
The reports have seen further warnings from SA’s consumer watchdog, who are working with state and federal agencies including the South Australian Police and Border Force to identify bitumen bandits and gather evidence of their offences.
Those caught doing unlicensed work are liable for an up to $50,000 fine, with the maximum penalty for a breach of Australian Consumer Law is a fine sitting at $2.5 million.
